Corrupt Ex-Cops Get Prison Time for Drug Dealer Shakedown

Cops refused plea deal that would have netted no jail time

Two ex-Miami-Dade cops will learn what it feels like to live behind bars after a judge sentenced them Monday to prison time for stealing money from a known drug dealer.

Joe Losada and Daniel Fernandez were convicted in September for stealing $970 from a drug dealer who was serving as an informant for the Police Department. Both men were members of the Crime Suppression Team, which was responsible for snuffing out drug dealers.

Losada was found guilty of official misconduct and aggravated assault with a firearm and was sentenced to two year sin prison. Fernandez received 21-months in prison for his role in the 2006 crime.

Both men were offered plea deals before trial that would have required them to fess up to the crime and turn in their badges in exchange for no jail time.
