Day-Long Fundraiser for Slain Officers' Families

Group wants to help Castillo and Haworth families

A day-long fundraiser is being held in Miami Lakes Tuesday to benefit the families of the two Miami-Dade officers killed in action last week.

DJ Mobile Mike and Clear Channel Radio Miami are teaming up at the shopping center at 16701 Northwest 67th St. to accept donations for the families of Officers Roger Castillo and Amanda Haworth.

Mobile Mike and his crew will be at the location from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. All donations will go straight to the Castillo and Haworth families.

"Two officers were brutally shot and murdered while serving the citizens of Miami Dade County. This is a sad day in South Florida," said Mobile Mike. "This is not only devastating to the families of these law enforcement officers, but to everyone in our community. Please find it in your heart to make a donation on Tuesday."

Haworth, 44, and Castillo, 41, were gunned down last Thursday in a shootout with a murder suspect in Liberty City. Their memorial service and funeral were held Monday.

The Dade County Police Benevolent Association is also accepting donations through their "Love Fund." Click here for more information.
