Family and Friends to Say Final Goodbyes to Braddock High Teen

Viewing for 16-year-old Antonio Robas in Miami tonight

A viewing service will be held Friday night for a South Florida teen who died after collapsing during gym class last week.

Family, friends and classmates will gather once again to say goodbye to 16-year-old Antonio Robas, who died suddenly last Friday while running the track during P.E. class at G. Holmes Braddock High School.

The viewing will begin at 5 p.m. at Garcia Funeral Home at 4100 Northwest 7th St. in Miami. A Saturday morning mass at St. Michaels at 2987 W. Flagler St. is scheduled for 9 a.m., followed by a burial.

Last Friday, September 17, Robas was jogging on the track surrounding the football field in the afternoon sun. Feeling unstable, witnesses tell police he stumbled to two trees for shade where he collapsed and died.

Hundreds of people turned out earlier this week at a tearful candle light memorial for Robas at the track where he collapsed, as friends and family paid tribute to the well-liked teen.

"And I want to say that I knew a good, young man,” said a weeping Alejandro Abreu, β€œAnd I know he's not here but I will carry his legacy on with me."

His mother, who lead a short walk to the spot of his collapse, was so moved by the size of the turnout that she overcame her pain to speak to the crowd.

β€œMy heart is destroyed.” Jenny Lara said in Spanish, β€œMy youngest son and unfortunately God took him away.”
