The family of a man who was crushed to death when a pile of metal beams fell on him at a Pompano Beach business last month has filed a lawsuit.
The wrongful death suit was filed Friday by the family of Sylvester Roulhac against the business, Kloeckner Metals.
"It's been over a month and we have no answers as to what's taken place with our father. It's just a travesty that something like this could happen to somebody, it could've happened to anybody, and we want answers," daughter Jennifer Simplize said.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue officials said the 71-year-old Roulhac, of Coral Springs, was delivering metal beams and had gotten out of his truck when a stack of steel beams in the warehouse fell and crushed him back on Sept. 16. Officials said the steel beams were about 40 feet long, with each bundle weighing about 6,000 pounds.
"We're seeking money damages for the loss that this family's gone though. We're gonna be seeking punitive damages against Kloeckner Metals, for their gross negligence in the way that they took care of their facility, but most importantly at this point we're going to get some answers for this family," attorney Judd Rosen said.
Kloeckner Metals declined comment at the time of Roulhac's death. NBC 6 reached out Friday seeking comment on the lawsuit and has yet to hear back.
The Broward Sheriff's Office and OSHA are still investigating the man's death.
