‘Find My iPhone' Tool Leads to Broward Armed Carjacking Spree Arrest

Police said a 16-year-old from Miami Gardens connected to armed carjackings in Davie, Pembroke Pines and Miramar has been arrested.

The Davie Police Department said the suspect carried out an armed robbery with the use of a 2013 white Dodge Avenger stolen in Miami Gardens on Aug. 13.

In the Davie robbery, the suspect and two others approached a white 2019 Volkswagen Jetta and blocked the car, then pointing firearms at the victim and demanded he exit, according to police. The victim's wallet and iPhone were stolen. A fourth suspect drove away with the vehicle.

A carjacking in Pembroke Pines soon followed. In that incident, the suspects within the two stolen vehicles – the Avenger and Jetta –opened fire on another car in Pembroke Pines. The attempted carjacking victim was not injured and the vehicle was not stolen.

After the Pembroke Pines attempt, the suspects then stole a Toyota RAV4 in Miramar.

The suspect was arrested because the victim in the Davie carjacking used the "Find My iPhone" resource and located the suspect to a residence in Miami Gardens.
