Florida Supreme Court Halts Execution of Man Who Killed 4

The Florida Supreme Court is halting the execution of a man who killed his ex-wife, daughter and two others until the U.S. Supreme Court reviews whether a sedative used in lethal injections is effective.

Tuesday's state Supreme Court ruling puts a hold on 59-year-old Jerry Correll's execution, which had been schedule for Feb. 26.

The U.S. Supreme Court halted executions in Oklahoma until it can determine whether condemned inmates suffer during the use of midazolam as the first in a three-drug lethal injection mix.

The state high court acknowledged that Florida uses virtually the same execution process as Oklahoma and in a 5-2 decision said it shouldn't follow its current execution procedure until the U.S. Supreme Court determines if it's constitutional.
