A Good Samaritan says she went into a burning home in Hollywood to save a baby from a fire Thursday morning.

The fire was reported at a home in the area of Northwest 60th Way and Fillmore Street.

Gayle Fogge said she was at a church across the street when she noticed the house on fire and saw two women running out. She said one of the women told her that her baby was still inside.

"I just put my shirt over my face and ran in and got the baby for her," Fogge said.

Fogge said there was smoke everywhere but she was able to find the baby on a mattress on a floor.

"It was all black you could hardly see anything," she said. "It just happened so fast."

Firefighters responded and put the fire out. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

At least one woman and the baby were taken from the scene in an ambulance. Officials haven't said what the victims' conditions are but a family member said the woman may be suffering from smoke inhalation.

Christina Payas, who lives at the home with her mother, sister and her 1-year-old niece, was dropping her kids off at school when the fire broke out.

"I was just freaking out because nobody didn't say anything and I was looking at the house and I was wondering if my mom was ok, is my niece ok, is my sister ok," Payas said.

Payas said the home was destroyed but the little girl was doing fine.

"I feel good but I don't consider myself a hero, I just did what an instinct took me," Fogge said.
