Health-Conscious Consumers Attend Health & Fitness Expo

More than 100 vendors promoted healthy products and lifestyles

Health-conscious consumers attended the eighth annual NBC 6 / Telemundo 51 Health & Fitness Expo at the Miami Beach Convention Center Saturday.

More than 100 vendors at the event promoted healthy products and lifestyles for all ages, using fun activities to engage attendees.

"If you want to stay in shape, you have to have fun while you're doing it, so the show has fitness pieces as well,” said Sam Smith, the event’s producer. “We have a kid zone, it's like an amusement park."

Taylor Clayton participated in several activities at the event.

“When you're healthy and fit, you're able to do more things, and it gets you stronger and you can learn more skills," Clayton said.

The Health & Fitness Expo also featured foods for a healthier lifestyle, including lemon cups provided by lifestyle expert Lucy Pereda. Participants also sampled new products, got massages and posed for pictures with familiar NBC 6 South Florida faces.

Hundreds also took advantage of health screenings, which including cholesterol and glucose tests. Participant Fernando Flores said he saved $1,000 in medical costs just by attending the expo.

"The only thing I have a little low is my good cholesterol," he said.

The annual event also featured unique jewelry for ladies.

"We have really fashionable jewelry, really unique because it has a magnet,” said Ivelisse Davila of Energetix Jewelry. “The magnet is a component that is really important for your blood circulation."

The Health & Fitness Expo runs through 5 p.m. Sunday and about 40,000 people are expected to attend.
