Hollywood Teacher Receives Climate Education Honor at White House

A Hollywood teacher is one of eight who are being honored at the White House Monday for working to improve climate education.

Linda Gancitano,a physical education teacher at Driftwood Middle School, is being honored as a "Champions of Change," part of President Barack Obama's Climate Education and Literacy initiative.

Gancitano started a "Green Team" at the school and started an environmental initiative call the "How Low Can You Go? Energy Challenge" which is now a district-wide energy reduction project that partners with the Miami Heat.

Before becoming a teacher, Gancitano was a member of the first-ever U.S. women's national soccer team and the first girl to play on the high school boy's soccer team at Coral Springs High School.
