    What to Know

    • The intriguing situation for the David Beckham and Jorge Mas owned Inter Miami club could be the situation of the namesake of the stadium.

Moving further down the list of facilities to play their inaugural season, Inter Miami is reportedly negotiating with Florida International University to play its first Major League Soccer season on the Sweetwater campus.

While FIU Athletics told NBC 6 "no comment," a source with the University has said "to read between the lines."

The intriguing situation for the David Beckham and Jorge Mas owned Inter Miami club could be the situation of the namesake of the stadium they are negotiating to play in.

Riccardo Silva Stadium is named after the owner of Miami FC. Silva’s team is slated to play their National Premier Soccer League schedule during the same months as Inter Miami’s MLS schedule.

According to Miami FC CEO Sean Flynn the contract with FIU stipulates that the school's football team has scheduling priority with Miami FC taking second priority.

All other stadium scheduled events would come after FIU Football and Miami FC schedules. That language in the contract would relegate Inter Miami to third in line at Riccardo Silva Stadium accessibility rights.

FIU has said they are working to confirm Flynn’s claim on the language of the contract.

NBC6 has attempted to reach out to Inter Miami for comment, but they have not responded.
