The rain and winds lashed at Florida's Panhandle Wednesday

Bands of heavy rain and wind gusts continue to lash Florida's Panhandle as Hurricane Isaac churns ashore more than 200 miles to the east.

Emergency officials said Wednesday they expect some erosion along Pensacola Beach from continued storm surge. And flooding in some low-lying areas is also expected.

Most schools, government offices and many businesses remained closed on Wednesday because of the storm.
