Malika James, Pembroke Pines Woman, Reported Missing During Art Basel Weekend

Pembroke Pines Police said they have obtained images of a missing 28-year-old woman who disappeared over the Art Basel weekend.

Malika James was last seen in Wynwood on Saturday and never showed up to her job at Basel Castle that evening friends said. Pembroke Pines Police said late Tuesday that James was seen in Winter Haven, Florida on Monday morning around 7:40 a.m.

Police said images of James were obtained and showed her to be in good physical condition, in her vehicle alone while using an ATM in Winter Haven. Pines Police said they have alerted authorities outside of South Florida about the case and will continue to monitor her Sunpass.

Leonard James, Malika’s father, said it's completely out of his daughter's character to disappear. He said he heard from his daughter Saturday morning and she said she was heading home to let a family friend into the house to do some repair work. The friend told the father that Malika James let him in and left.

Friends have been distributing flyers and flooding the internet with photos of James on sites including Instagram and Tumblr to try to find her. A Facebook page, Find Malika James, had nearly 500 followers Tuesday afternoon.

Anyone with information about Malika’s whereabouts is asked to call Pembroke Pines Police at 954-438-4357.
