Man Rams Into Miami-Dade Police Unit, Leads Chase

A man was in custody Friday night after ramming his truck into a Miami-Dade police unit and leading officers on a chase.

The incident began at around 8 p.m. in the 14000 block of SW 90th Terrace when the man tried to leave his parent's house against their will, according to Miami-Dade Police Department spokesman Lee Cowart.

The man rammed his pickup truck into the rear of a responding officer's unit while the officer was sitting inside the vehicle, according to Cowart.

A pursuit ensued but quickly ended when officers were able to stop the man in the southbound lanes of Florida's Turnpike north of SW 184th Street. A stun gun was deployed, but it's unclear if the subject was struck, police said.

The man was taken into custody and was hospitalized for observation. The officer who was in the unit when it was struck was also hospitalized, but his condition was unknown.

No other injuries were reported.

Charges are pending for the man, according to police.
