Man Suspected of Truck Arson in Florida Keys Held on $1 Million Bond

Stuart James Collins is suspected of setting fire to a truck inside which a Homestead man was sleeping.

The man suspected of setting a truck on fire in the Florida Keys, severely burning a Homestead man who was sleeping inside, was ordered a $1.05 million bond by a Monroe County circuit judge, reported the Florida Keynoter.

Officials say Stuart James Collins, 28, set fire to the truck parked outside the Dog House bar in Marathon early Friday morning.

When Deputies and firefighters arrived on scene, they found 52-year-old victim Jose Gonzales, who had been injured in the fire. Gonzales, who works for Florida Paving and Truck Incorporated, was sleeping or resting inside the cab of his work truck when Collins tipped a gas can over it and it on fire, according to authorities.

Gonzales was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami where he remains in critical condition, according to the Keynoter.

Collins is charged with attempted murder, arson with bodily injury and arson-property damage, criminal mischief and criminal attempt to commit the other crimes.
