Manning To Meet With Philbin: Report

Peyton Manning will meet with Dolphins' head coach this week

Peyton Manning is scheduled to meet with Miami Dolphins coach Joe Philbin sometime in the next three days, according to ESPN. The meeting will probably take place Monday evening or Tuesday morning, and will not take place at Miami's team facilities.

Manning is also expected to speak with Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak. ESPN had reported earlier in the day that Manning would not be visiting the Dolphins' facilities, and that still appears to be the case. Manning got good luck at Dolphins headquarters when the Colts appeared in two Super Bowls at Sun Life Stadium in the past decade.

Manning visited the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals over the weekend, and both had been reported to be the frontrunners to sign the former Colts quarterback.

According to ESPN, Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman will also be at the meeting with Manning. General manager Jeff Ireland may also attend. Sherman tried (unsuccessfully) to recruit Manning to Texas A&M when Sherman was an assistant there in the 1990s.

Even if the Broncos and Cardinals are the favorites, Manning has not started contract negotiations with either team.

Additionally, the Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs, two teams thought to be interested in Manning, are not in the running any longer.

The stakes are high in the Dolphins' meetings. Manning has no major connection with anyone on the Dolphins staff. Arizona coach Ken Wisenhunt and Denver coach John Fox have both worked with Manning before on Pro Bowl squads, so he apparently has some level of comfort with both.

If the Dolphins do not receive any good signals from Manning, they may have to give up on that chase and focus on Green Bay quarterback Matt Flynn, who will become a free agent Tuesday afternoon.
