Marlins Halt Skid With Rare Victory Over Braves

The Marlins put an end to a three-game skid with a rare win against the Braves on Saturday

The Miami Marlins picked up a rare victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday to halt a three-game skid.

Atlanta has been a problem for Miami all season long, but Saturday's 6-4 win will give the Marlins a chance to split the series. With one game to go, the Braves hold a 2-1 series edge and have dominated the season series. The Braves are a key reason that the Marlins are nearing elimination.

Even with the win, Miami finds itself on the outside looking in for the Wild-Card race. A recent string of losses has all but ended Miami's hopes of competing in the postseason this year. It would take a monumental collapse from the teams ahead of the Marlins at this point to put Miami back into the postseason picture.

With the season winding down, Wei-Yin Chen made his second start since returning from the disabled list. Chen only was able to go four innings and he allowed two runs on four hits. Chen was not able to take part in rehab games, and is building up arm strength at the big league level.

Even though Miami had the lead when Chen exited the game, he was not eligible for the win due to the short outing. The official scorer instead gave the victory to Austin Brice. This was the first win of Brice's major league career. The right-hander tossed one scoreless inning in the win.

Dee Gordon was busy on the basepaths with three stolen bases. Gordon now has 26 steals this year despite missing considerable time due to a 80-game suspension. Yefri Perez (4) and J.T. Realmuto (12) also stole bases during the win.

Derek Dietrich hit his seventh home run of the season in the first inning. The two-run homer put Miami ahead at the time, after the team had allowed a run in the top half of the inning.

The four-game series will conclude on Sunday when Adam Conley starts for Miami.
