Miami-Dade Animal Shelter Looking for Dog Thieves

In a video, a couple is seen holding the Shih Tzu, named Lucky, then calmly walking out the door

The Miami-Dade Animal Services Shelter is looking for two young dogs that were taken by thieves Tuesday.

A white and brown Shih Tzu and a tricolor Rat Terrier mix, both males that are about 1 year old, were taken out of the shelter by four unidentified people, surveillance video shows.

In the video, a couple is seen holding the Shih Tzu, named Lucky, then calmly walking out the door.

The video also shows that couple talking with another pair – possibly a mother and daughter – who are seen walking out with another missing dog, a stray named Andy.

The brazen snatchings have left Miami-Dade Animal Services Director Alex Muñoz and his staff stunned.

"There's a lot of activity, a lot of people walking through,” Muñoz told NBC Miami. “Very disappointed. And upset that someone would do this."

Muñoz likened the acts to shoplifting.

“You can clearly see they were not being assisted. They just carried the animals out,” he said.

Now, the shelter is working with Miami-Dade Police to try and get the pets back safely.

“Luckily, we do have video and we hopefully will be able to track them down with your help,” Muñoz said.
