Miami-Dade Water and Sewer officials said Monday the county is experiencing a severe drought.

Officials are reminding residents of water restrictions that are in place in an effort to conserve water.

Officials said that watering is not allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Hand-watering with one hose fitted with an automatic shut-off nozzle is allowed for 10 minutes per day for landscape stress relief and to prevent plants from dying.

Residents and businesses with an odd-numbered street address can water their lawns on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to 10 a.m., while residents with an even numbered address can water their lawns on Thursdays and Sundays during the same time period.

Restrictions don’t apply for car and boat washing, pressure cleaning of paved surfaces, decorative fountains and things like swimming pools or water slides.

New landscaping can be watered during the hours listed above every day, except Fridays, for the first 90 days. Officials urge you to save the receipt with the date of purchase. Residents who can’t water during those specific hours can apply for a variance by calling 311.
