Miami-Dade School Superintendent Supports Vaccinations

Miami-Dade School Superintendent Alberto Carvhalo says he supports any law that mandates children or adults who don't have their vaccinations to get them.

At a meeting with parents and school board officials, Carvhalo explained that his educational background is in science, and that scientific research supports getting vaccinated.

He says currently, Miami-Dade schools are almost 100 percent vaccinated, and that the district efforts to ensure that any incoming students from foreign countries go through a proper vaccination period.

Carvhalo's comments come on the heels of U.S. Democratic congresswoman Frederica Wilson stating that she is preparing to file a bill that would make it a law for all public school students to get vaccinated, with minimal exceptions to that law.

The Florida Dept of Health issued a statement recently urging all Florida residents to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of measles.

There have been four cases of measles reported in the state of Florida.

All four were from visitors to the state.
