A Miami woman's 1-year-old daughter was found wandering the halls of their high-rise building after she left the child alone to go shopping at Publix, police said.

Sandy Hernandez, 26, was arrested Monday night on a charge of child neglect causing no great bodily harm, according to an arrest report.

According to the report, the little girl was found by two witnesses walking unaccompanied on the 32nd floor of the building in the 1700 block of N. Bayshore Drive around 8 p.m.

After officers arrived, Hernandez was found and admitted to leaving the girl home alone while she went to Publix, the report said. The girl had markings on her left leg and arm, but Hernandez said she didn't know where they came from, according to the report.

An officer "observed [Hernandez's] apartment in a disarray and in poor living conditions for a child," the report said.

"I don't hold messy houses against people, I do hold leaving children alone though, I find that a problem, it is a violation of the law," Judge Mindy Glazer said in court Tuesday.

Hernandez had her bond set at $3,000 during the hearing, but she remains behind bars on an immigration hold, records showed. The arrest report said she is a Colombian citizen.

Hernandez was also ordered to stay away from the girl. The Department of Children and Families said they have opened a child protective investigation into the case.
