Miramar Man Arrested for Child Porn: Police

A Miramar man is under arrest after police uncovered more than 188 child porn files the man allegedly distributed through a file sharing network.

In January, the Broward County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into a child pornography distribution network on the unnamed network.

As a result of that investigation, an IP address registered to an account at 3091 Thames Way in Miramar led police to that account holder, 32-year-old Douglas Sands.

"This is part of a multi-agency task force. This was months in the making," said Gina Carter of the BSO. "What we have here is a gentleman that had 188 files of child pornography on this computer, thirty videos of children engaging in sex."

The disturbing videos and photos contained images of very young children under the age of 13 being forced to engage in a variety of sexual acts, both with adults and other children, police say.

Police obtained a warrant for Sands' arrest on Monday and he was taken into custody early Wednesday.

"The suspect in this case admitted to going on a child pornography sharing website," Carter said. "On this network, he was able to access videos and he also downloaded stills."

Sands was transported to the Broward County Sheriff's Office Main Jail for processing.

It is not known if Sands has hired an attorney.
