Mother Wants Answers in Fatal Police-Involved Shooting in Miami Gardens

The mother of a man who died during an officer-involved shooting in Miami Gardens is demanding answers.

"All I want to know is 'why did you all kill my child' and I beg you all please don't kill my child and that's what they did," a distraught Catherine Daniels said Monday, a day after son Lavall Hall was killed.

It was 5 a.m. Sunday when Daniels called 911 to report 25-year-old Hall was having another schizophrenic episode. This time, he was coming at her with a broken broom stick.

When officers arrived, a witness said they tried to subdue him, but Hall ran and they gave chase. That witness said he wasn't armed.

But in a news release, police said officers at the scene said they shot Hall because he engaged them in a physical altercation using an object.

"They're lying, they're lying," Daniels said. "And I'm going to get me some justice for taking my child's life."

Daniels' cousin said that even if Hall had an object, it doesn't justify the shooting.

"You can do other things besides killing him. Taser him, spray him with mace, they've got two men on a little boy, and you can't detain him? They didn't want to," the cousin, who only gave his first name, Walter, said.

Daniels and other family members held a candlelight vigil Monday night. The small group marched and prayed, making calls for justice.

"Lord I'm begging you, asking you, I want justice for them taking my child's life," Daniels said.

Police are still investigating the shooting.
