NACA Helps Families Escape Foreclosure

NACA last came to South Florida in October, when it helped more than 5,000 people save their homes.

Families hoping to escape foreclosure lined up for free help from the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America in northwest Miami-Dade.

The non-profit agency is back in town and offered face-to-face problem solving between homeowners and their lenders.

NACA last came to South Florida in October, when it helped more than 5,000 people save their homes.

Darren Duarte said hurting homeowners have an 80 percent chance of resolving their mortgage strife in 30 to 45 days through loan modification.

"Everything is free," said Bruce Marks, NACA CEO. "The homeowners, they don't pay a penny, not now, not ever."

Instead, the agency charges banks a fee for finding a payment solution.

Jay Gross was able to reduce his interest rate last year when NACA came. Now he's trying to reduce his principal on a house he's lived in for 14 years with his family. He and his wife owe more than the home is worth.

"You gotta keep on keepin' on," Gross said.

NACA is offering assistance at the Doubletree Airport Hilton at 711 NW 72nd Avenue in Miami-Dade County. Help is available every day through Monday March 19 from 8am-8pm. Agency employees said to bring identification and mortgage paperwork.
