Residents in one Oakland Park neighborhood are asking for the county’s help after the latest sighting of coyotes near the development.

Neighbors snapped photos of the wild animals near the Oak Tree community, saying they have been spotting the animals as far back as one year ago.

“We were…doing our walk in the morning and I thought he was a duck and so I kind of kept my dog from chasing it and then I realized it was a coyote,” said Linda Gratz, who snapped a photo of one coyote.

The neighborhood borders a nearby golf course, where some residents have seen the animals before.

“It’s kind of scary,” said Michael Desantis, another resident who has notified officials about the animals. “There’s a lot of young kids that play out on the field a lot of pets in the neighborhood a couple of cats have disappeared.”

Desantis said officials from both the city as well as Broward County Animal Control have said they can’t do anything unless a coyote attacks or hurts a human.

“I don’t know what should be done because they are nature and they’re great to have out there but they’re not great for dog walking and children, Gratz said. “I don’t know what’s right."
