One Killed in Reported Shooting in North Miami Beach

A 17-year-old was shot and killed just feet away from a bus stop near North Miami Beach Monday afternoon. As the shots were being fired, an innocent woman sitting on a bus bench was also shot in the leg.

“I heard the first shot and I thought it was a car, a tire,” said a witness who asked not to be named. “Then I heard two, pow, pow, pow. Then people start pointing around. Then I heard it again – pow, pow, pow. That’s when I saw the guy fall on the floor.”

The shooting happened on a bus bench outside the mall on the 1200 block of Northeast 163rd Street. Shortly after the shooting, three men were detained by police.

“I was there when the jitney got pulled over,” Christopher Fennell said. “They jumped on the jitney. They pulled them over down the street, further down the street.”

The three were being held for questioning by Miami-Dade Police..

Just feet away from the shooting, a couple that saw the aftermath said it brought back painful memories for them. Their 19-year-old son was gunned down in the same area.

“The violence has to stop,” Israel Patterson said. “It literally has to stop. We’re losing a lot of young live and it’s just ridiculous. Every time I put on the news, there’s another young life lost, every day.”

Miami-Dade Police are investigating the shooting. If you have any information about the shooting, contact Miami-Dade Police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
