Man Arrested After Firing Shots at North Perry Airport: Police

A man is in police custody after he allegedly fired shots inside his vehicle Monday morning at North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines.

According to a Pembroke Pines Police report, employees at the airport saw a suspicious vehicle parked outside around 7 a.m. with what appeared to be a window shattered by a gunshot on the passenger-side of the car.

Employees told NBC 6 when asked what he was doing there, the man claimed he was waiting for his wife.

The man then drove off and was stopped by officers on Perimeter Road. When police tried to get the man to step out of the vehicle, he exited the driver's side with a firearm holstered in his waistband.

Police said the man removed the gun and placed it on the floorboard of the car. The man was apprehended and taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

It is not immediately known why the man was at the airport. Police said this remains an active investigation.

Police have described the subject as a 39-year-old Hispanic male. His name has not been released.
