Puppy Stolen From Pembroke Pines Pet Store

Witnesses told employees the woman got away in a black pick-up truck.

Petland's store manager calls her a woman with a purpose.

SOT, Tabitha Paul, Petland Manager- "she took advantage of us," said manager Tabitha Paul. "That's exactly what she did."

The woman walked into the Pembroke Pines pet store on a busy Thursday evening. Employees say she asked to see an 8-week-old Maltese named Snowy.

"They put her in a room, told her they'd be right back, and went to help another customer," Paul said.

In a matter of seconds, the Maltese thief casually walked out of the store, no puppy in sight. The woman was captured by surveillance video as she made her way through a crowd of customers.

"Somebody who takes a puppy like that has no good intentions," Paul said.

The dog is worth $2,000, but Petland's manager says it's not the money they're most worried about. They believe Snowy could be in danger.

"Especially with smaller dogs, when they go home they get stressed out," Paul said. "[With a] change of environment, they can catch a cold."

The puppies' microchip may get the Maltese back in proper hands. The store has already issued an alert and filed a police report.

"If the puppy were to go to the vet's office or end up at the Humane Society or anywhere else and they scan it, it's going show an Amber alert saying that the puppy was stolen," Paul said.

Witnesses told employees the woman got away in a black pick-up truck. Anyone who has seen the woman is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
