Police Suspect Coconut Grove Rapist

Three rapes in Coconut Grove could have been committed by the same man

Miami Dade Police have released a sketch of a potential serial rapist who looks eerily similar to a suspect from two other rapes in Coconut Grove last year.

The most recent incident happened early Thursday morning when a woman was sexually assaulted in the area of Northwest 62 Street and 22 Avenue in Miami. Around 4 a.m., as the victim was walking from a bus stop she was confronted with the suspect carrying a knife. He forced the victim to a dark area then sexually assaulted her took her purse and fled on foot, police said.

The suspect's method matches that of two rapes last year, only those times he used a gun.

The first rape occurred in October when a woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint in the 3200 block of Virginia Street. About three weeks later, a male approached woman on Mary Street a few blocks away with a gun and forced himself inside her vehicle.

After sexually assaulting the victim, the suspect took her car keys and fled the area on foot, police said.

In all the cases, the females were assaulted when they were alone in the early morning hours. The suspect is described as approximately 5’7, wearing a skull cap and a bandanna covering his face.

Anyone with information concerning the subject should contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (305-471-8477).
