Remains Found in Monroe County Could Belong to Man Missing Since 2014: Police

Deputies in Monroe County are investigating whether remains found Tuesday are those of a man reported missing nearly three years ago.

A county employee called the Sheriff’s office to report what he thought was human bones while examining standing water on one roadway in Big Pine Key. Deputies responded and discovered they were indeed human remain.

A wallet was found nearby at what officials said looked like the remains of an old homeless campsite. Identification inside that wallet was from a man who has been missing since July 2014. Remains will be turned over to the medical examiner’s office to determine through DNA if it is indeed the missing person.

MCSO would not release the man’s name until a positive identification was made.
