Rescuers Search for Texas Man in Everglades

Jacob Olivieri has been missing since Aug. 24 when he entered Everglades National Park

Authorities are looking for a Texas man who has been missing for a week after visiting Everglades National Park.

Jacob Olivieri entered the park Aug. 24 and his car has been parked at Pine Glades Lake ever since, park spokeswoman Linda Friar said in a statement.

The 23-year-old man from Texas has no known friends or relatives in the area and has officially been declared a missing person, Friar said.

It was unclear how long Olivieri intended to stay in the park or why he was there.

Park rangers started a search for Olivieri on Monday, but found no clues of the man except his vehicle, which had not been moved, officials said.

Trackers and K-9 units are expected to join the search Wednesday, along with a Miami-Dade Police helicopter flying overhead.

Anyone who believes they may have seen Olivieri while visiting the park the past week or have other information about his whereabouts is being asked to contact the park dispatch at (305) 242-7740.
