It has been quite a historic week for women’s tennis player Monica Puig. Saturday, she made history by winning the first gold medal in the history of Puerto Rico, taking the crown in Rio in an emotional match.

Now back in Miami, where she has lived since moving from Puerto Rico, Puig is being celebrated as a hero for a nation of people who have never been able to celebrate a gold medal winner before.

"It's really been a dream come true," told NBC 6’s Amanda Plasencia. "I really owe it to Puerto Rico for their support, and there’s no better way to give it back than to give them this."
