Maurice Ross, 31, faces four charges after his assault at Q. Mitchell Nursery, the agency said

Broward authorities said they arrested a gunman who shot his robbery victim at a West Sunrise Boulevard business after he left behind “a trail of evidence” for detectives to follow.

Maurice Ross, 31, of Fort Lauderdale is charged with attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a firearm and driving with a suspended license, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

He approached Fabian Montero and Richard Dorsey at Q. Mitchell Nursery at 2816 W. Sunrise Blvd. at about 11 a.m. Wednesday, demanding their cash and belongings, the BSO said. While the 43-year-old Dorsey escaped, the 41-year-old Montero stayed and handed over his wallet and cell phone to Ross, who shot him in the leg, according to the BSO.

The agency released a composite sketch of the suspect’s face and long, square goatee and a surveillance photo of his black pickup truck on Friday.

A detective noticed a black Chevrolet pickup that resembled the one in the surveillance photo parked about four blocks west of Q. After both victims identified Ross as the robber, he was taken into custody at 7:40 p.m. Friday, the agency said.
