SWAT Holds 4-Hour Standoff at Empty House

Police thought a man with a machine gun was inside

It might not have been a drill, but it sure ended like one.

Broward Sheriff's deputies and SWAT shut down a neighborhood and positioned themselves in front of a home Wednesday for four hours only to come to the realization that no one was inside.

Officials thought a man with a machine gun had barricaded himself inside a Pompano Beach house with possible hostages, but when SWAT bust the door down they found an empty house.

The "standoff" started around 10 a.m. after BSO got a call about domestic violence.

It's unclear if the suspect escaped somehow or if it was a prank, but it's good to know that law enforcement is ready when called upon.

After all, practice - even if it is a mistake - makes perfect.
