    Man Charged With Murder After Shooting Girlfriend Outside Miami-Dade 7-Eleven

    A man is behind bars after he shot and killed his girlfriend right in front of the 7-Eleven store she owned. NBC 6's Bobby Brooks reports. (Published Sunday, May 17, 2015)

    A man is behind bars after he shot and killed his girlfriend right in front of the 7-Eleven store she owned Friday morning.

    The shooting reportedly happened just before 11:30 a.m. at a 7-Eleven at 533 Northwest 103rd Street, just east of I-95.

    According to Miami-Dade Police, the couple was involved in a verbal dispute which escalated. The suspect, identified as 51-year-old Rudolph Gonzalez, pulled out a gun and shot 52-year-old Elisabethe Silva inside a four-door sedan parked outside the store, police said.

    Miami-Dade Police Detective Daniel Ferrin said the two lived together. Investigators confirmed Silva owned the store, while Gonzalez worked as the store manager.

    A witness described the disturbing scene.

    "And I see the guy standing outside of the car shooting at his wife. I run close to the car and he's going around the other side, I guess he's smashing the window to throw the gun or something," said John Brion.

    Gonzalez waited at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He surrendered his handgun to officers.

    "The guy did call the cops himself so they got here pretty quick. As soon as he got here he threw himself on the floor and surrendered," said Brion.

    Police are trying to determine what led to the shooting.

    "They just had a fiery argument I understand... because she came over and told me. So this just escalated today," said a witness.

    People on the scene told police after the shooting, Gonzalez told them he just killed his girlfriend and was ready to hurt himself.

    When police arrived, he complained of chest pains and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated and then taken into custody for questioning.

    Gonzalez has been charged with second-degree murder. He is being held without bond.

    It is unclear whether Gonzalez has an attorney.
