Skimmers Found on 2 ATMs in Florida Keys

Deputies in Monroe County are investigating after two ATM machines were discovered with skimming devices.

According to detectives, both ATM machines were at Bank of America locations in the Upper Keys. One was discovered by a customer Sunday morning at the 99 mile marker. The woman placed her card into the slot and it wasn't returned, and the machine gave a warning about the card's protection. The customer was reportedly able to peel the skimmer device off of the card slot.

The second device was found installed at a machine at the 92.2 mile marker.

Bank of America security personnel are working with deputies to uncover who placed the devices on the machines.

Officials warn that skimmer devices can be difficult to detect, and resemble the card slot machines themselves. They have been found on ATM machines, gas pumps and at various convenience stores.

Customers are warned to frequently monitor credit card and debit card activity to catch unusual or illegal activity.
