After locking down streets in Aventura for nearly two hours, SWAT teams found out the man they thought was locked inside a doctor's office had already escaped.
According to police, the man walked into the doctor's office at 20601 East Dixie Highway around 4:30 p.m. and brandished a gun in front of the lone clerk on duty.
The white male said to be in his 20s asked the woman information, but the clerk screamed and ran out of the building.
No one else was believed to be in the office at the time and police arrived shortly afterward. Surrounding businesses were also evacuated.
Traffic was blocked in both directions from 203rd to 209th streets on Biscayne Boulevard as cops set up a perimeter to contain the suspect, but the man somehow slipped through undetected.
