A burglary suspect jumped into a canal to avoid police, but drowned

A Broward burglary suspect chose to sink instead of swim after being caught red-handed bu police on Monday.

Lauderhill Police are saying the burglar has drowned after jumping in a canal trying to avoid being arrested.

Police have not released the name of the burglary suspect turned drowning victim, but his partner in crime was arrested after he was fished out of the water alive.

Around 11 a.m., a neighbor called police about a possible break-in near NW 25th Place and 44th Street. When police arrived, they heard the two men fleeing from the back of the residence through a chain-linked fence.

The one suspect that survived told police that his friend had jumped in the water, but never came up. Divers pulled the body up later, but the suspect was already dead.
