An emergency alert was issued to University of Miami students Wednesday morning after an armed robber held up a bank across the street from the school's campus, setting off a massive police search.
The robbery happened around 10 a.m. at the Metro Bank at 1390 S. Dixie Highway, causing Coral Gables police to close off streets in the area of Alhambra Circle.
The alert from UM came out just before 10:30, warning students to stay away from the area and stay indoors. It described the suspect as a white male wearing a black ski mask and dark jacket with a silver handgun.
Police were still looking for the suspect as of about 11:30 a.m.
