U.S. Postal Service Launches Gingerbread Houses Stamps With Life-Sized Replica

The U.S. Postal Service unveiled a life-sized replica of a gingerbread house as it rolled out its newest stamps Wednesday.

The impressive house, unveiled at the James A. Farley Main Post Office in New York, is modeled after one of the sugary homes featured on the new Gingerbread Houses Forever stamps.

The pieces of postage show four houses, made with real gingerbread and royal icing, that include sugary fruit slices for shingles, peppermint sticks for support beams, and candy-coated chocolate doorknobs, the Postal Service said in a news release.

The houses were built by Teresa Layman, a renowned gingerbread house architect, under the direction of stamp art director Derry Noyes, according to the USPS. Stamp artist Sally Anderson-Bruce photographed them.

The Postal Service said it expects to deliver nearly 15 billion pieces of mail between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve. The busiest mailing day of the holidays will be Monday, Dec. 16, the USPS says, with more than 607 million pieces of mail expected to be processed then.
