Alleged Miami Shores Serial Porch Pirate Arrested

Darius Saunders, 24, is facing multiple grand theft and burglary charges

A man accused of multiple package thefts at homes in Miami Shores has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Darius Saunders, 24, is facing multiple grand theft and burglary charges, according to arrest reports.

Police say Saunders is responsible for at least five theft cases, including one on July 24 and four on July 26. All of the thefts happened in the early afternoon, and one house was hit twice, police said.

Surveillance footage of the thefts was released by police earlier this week. According to the arrest reports, Saunders' stepfather contacted police after seeing media reports of the thefts, and said the vehicle the suspect was driving was his.

The same day the stepfather came forward, police in Hialeah stopped the vehicle and took Saunders into custody, the reports said.

Police said at first Saunders gave them a false name. Saunders has a prior criminal record with arrest for driving without a license and for armed robbery with a firearm, prosecutors said.

Saunders appeared in court Wednesday where he was given a $27,500 bond. Attorney information wasn't available.
