Flight Returns to Miami After Odor in Cockpit, 1 Hospitalized

A total of six patients were evaluated at the scene, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said

A flight attendant was hospitalized after an odor in the cockpit forced a plane to return to Miami International Airport Monday morning.

The incident happened on an American Airlines flight that was heading to Newark, New Jersey, airline officials said.

The plane, which was carrying 149 passengers and a crew of six, safely returned to MIA.

The six crew members requested medical attention and one flight attendant asked to be taken to the hospital as a precaution. No passengers requested medical attention.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said crews responded and took one person to a local hospital. Footage showed multiple ambulances outside one of the airport's gates.

The aircraft was being evaluated by a maintenance team. No other information was immediately known.
