A Pompano Beach man is behind bars after police say he shot a crossbow at a teenager waiting at a bus stop in January – with investigators saying this might not have been the first time.

William Rodriguez was arrested Wednesday on several counts, including premeditated attempted murder. The 33-year-old is being held in the Broward County Jail until his first appearance before a judge.

According to police, Rodriguez fired the weapon at 18-year-old Alexandre Nicholas while he was using his cell phone at a bus stop off Copans Road on January 16th. Nicholas was taken to the hospital after needing to have surgery to remove a six inch arrow removed from his hand.

"Where'd this come from? Like, it was just random," said Nicholas. "When it first happened it was like a clean shot just like it was in my finger just poking out."

Officials believe Rodriguez, who confessed to shooting at people with the crossbow from his car, is involved in four other cases being investigated. He has prior arrests that include burglary, cannabis possession and more.

"I'm so happy they got him off the street. Not to hurt another child. A young baby. A young student," said Rosie Alexandre, the victim's mother.

Anyone with information on the other cases is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
