Coast Guard Arrests Alleged Illegal Charter Boat Operator in Miami

The 45-foot vessel "Breaking the Habit" was busted Saturday for operating illegally near AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami

The party is over for a boat that the U.S. Coast Guard said was operating illegally in South Florida.

The 45-foot vessel "Breaking the Habit" was busted Saturday for operating illegally near AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, Coast Guard officials said. It was the second time within a month the vessel was discovered operating as an illegal charter, officials said.

The owner of the boat, Angel Jose Limongi, was arrested after the boat was found to be committing a number of violations, including not having a valid Certificate of Inspection, not having a credentialed mariner in control while operating a small passenger vessel and failure to comply with a Captain of the Port Order.

Investigators said one passenger told them she was never given a safety briefing or shown where to find life vests. Other passengers made the same claim, officials said.

And sources told NBC 6 that several weeks ago one person who was on the "Breaking the Habit" was somehow seriously injured and ended up in an induced coma at the hospital for several days.

Limongi’s attorney and he said no comment to any of the charges. A judge set his bond at $100,000 during a hearing in federal court Monday, and he was ordered not to go to the marina.
