Crews Salvage Sunken 65-Foot Yacht from Fort Lauderdale Docks

The yacht will now be taken to a shipyard where it will be assessed for repairs

Towboats spent Monday morning salvaging a 65-foot Fort Lauderdale yacht that sank over the weekend.

According to Joseph Moretti, Yacht Broker for Moretti Yachts International, the Grecian Gal had just returned from a humanitarian aid trip in the Bahamas - where it had taken around $30,000 worth of equipment for Hurricane Dorian victims.

"On the way back, the boat had hit something in the water, halfway back. It bent the strut at the rear of the boat, where the rutter is - and started taking on some water," Moretti says.

The speed at which the yacht was moving at did not allow it to take too much water in, but the yacht broker says that changed once it docked.

"They were able to bring it on the New River in Fort Lauderdale and tie the boat up. Unfortunately, it was 2 o'clock in the morning, and within two hours, the boat had sunk."

The yacht will now be taken to a shipyard where it will be assessed for repairs.
