Customer Forgets Wallet, Bearded Man Behind Him Swipes It

Police are searching for a bearded bandit who they say callously stole a wallet left behind by a customer at an Oakland Park convenience store.

Broward Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Monday in hopes that someone recognizes the thief. The incident happened July 7 at the Mobil gas station along W. Oakland Park Boulevard.

The suspect was standing in line behind the victim when the victim placed his wallet and merchandise down as he waited to pay. When it was the victim’s turn to pay, he grabbed the items but left behind his wallet. That’s when the bearded suspect took the wallet, and then played it cool as the victim and other customers looked for the wallet, BSO said.

Moments later, the thief purchased a sports drink and left the store by motorcycle, according to officials. Police said the victim later had two unauthorized transactions on his missing debit card.

Police said the suspect has distinctive tattoos on the right side of his body. Anyone with information on this case is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
