Dog Found Severely Neglected Being Treated at FTL Hospital

An abandoned dog is now on his way to recovery after the mixed-breed puppy -- named Patterson -- was found severely neglected on Miramar Parkway Saturday.

Members from 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida Rescue rushed Patterson to the Lauderdale Veterinary Specialists in Fort Lauderdale for treatment.

The dog suffered severe mange and emaciation. The mange covered approximately 90% of his body and left the dog covered with sores, scabs and sloughing skin.

“This is truly the definition of total abandonment and neglect,” said Amy Roman, president and founder of 100+ Abandoned Dogs of Everglades Florida Rescue. “We’re just thankful some people took notice, contacted us and that we were able to get him the help he needs.”

Patterson remains in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

As word spread, people have been donating to help pay for Patterson’s medical treatment.

Doctors are hopeful that Patterson will make a full recovery.
