Wednesday evening some very special cargo arrived in Fort Lauderdale – 48 dogs. They were rescued from deplorable conditions in Memphis, Tennessee. Now, they are being given a second chance at life here in South Florida.
It's something so important to Steve Posovsky, it brought tears to his eyes.
"This is very emotional," the Tri County Humane Society Shelter volunteer said. "These dogs are going to be treated great, get great homes, and these are the lucky ones."
Two weeks ago, the group of dogs, with nearly 100 others, were saved by police after they were found living in deplorable conditions in the back of a U-Haul trailer in Memphis.
When the American Humane Association got in touch with the Tri-County Humane Society Shelter in Boca Raton, they jumped in to help.
"We believe in helping any animals and when they reached out to us, we said, 'We're here for you. We'll take as many animals,'" cofounder Suzi Goldsmith said.
With the help of FedEx, they made it to the Sunshine State around 7 p.m.

"It's my first time unloading pets like this, so it feels wonderful," FedEx employee James Roscoe said. "Some are calm dogs, some are loud, but at the end of the day, it feels great."
After the dogs are completely healed, they will be ready for adoption at the shelter.
"You rescue a dog, you save a life, and you wake up every morning sitting next to that animal feeling good about yourself," Posovsky said.
