Driver Helps Kids to Safety After School Bus Catches Fire in Tamarac

A driver was able to safely get kids off his school bus after it caught fire in Tamarac Thursday.

The bus carrying 16 students was in the area of Northwest 61st Street near University Drive when the driver began to smell smoke, Tamarac Fire Rescue officials said.

He acted quickly and was able to get all of the kids off safely as the fire consumed the front of the bus, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The students, who are from Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale, were taken on another bus or by parents, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
