Driver Sought, Man Recovering After Miramar Hit-and-Run

A man is recovering in the hospital after he was struck by a car in Miramar in what police are investigating as a hit-and-run.

According to an incident report, 23-year-old Yimmy Santana Mendez was in a crosswalk in the 2400 block of Miramar Boulevard Sunday when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Miramar Fire Rescue took him to Memorial Regional Hospital with numerous injuries, police said.

"I'm here with a broken leg, with a headache constantly, all day, and that person cannot give his face and say 'okay, I'm sorry, let me try,'" Mendez told NBC 6. "At least 'let me try to help you in whatever I can.' But to just leave me like that, as if I was an animal."

A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for his medical expenses.

A witness described the driver as a white female with blue hair. She was in a white, newer model Honda or Toyota 4-door vehicle with front end damage and possible windshield damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
