Whether it's free tax filing or just a free meal, tough economic times in South Florida have led many businesses to offer their services on the house, but one Fort Lauderdale is taking it to another level with free botox injections.
A few months ago, Tribeca Medaesthetics began offering free procedures - a little botox here, a laser hair removal there - to customers who couldn't afford their cosmetic services but could explain why they required it.
Dr. Jason Shapiro, who runs the practice, started accepting 300-word essays from customers who wanted the freebie procedures. He expected a few hundred requests, but ended up getting over 1,200.
"I feel very fortunate because our practice has been doing quite well," Shapiro told the Sun-Sentinel.
The field had been narrowed down to 50 finalists, who are all vying for the "Beauty and Botox" grants, worth about $3,000. The 20 winners will be announced today at the Sheraton in Fort Lauderdale..
